You have a choice: the KNOCK OFF or the original.

I agree with the others that this is not the right forum for this discussion, but I'm pretty much sure the mods will move this to another forum. But just to answer gotmagic's question. I'd buy the original from Colin Gilbert rather than get the rip off version.

The magic mints is the knock off, and the one I have. I don't use it much because I can't find those kind of candies around here.

Hello,

I have the Gilbert's original one.

I have questions.
1) Is the Magic Mints Lifesaver brand or not?
2) What's the difference between the original and the knock-off? I mean the very same quality?

The Magic Mints is Lifesaver brand, but I don't know what the difference is between the knock offs and the original. But the knock of is a little flimsy...

Hello themagician101,

Thank you for your info.

Does the Magic Mints have wire inside to keep the shape?

Also something that should be mentioned is that Alan Rorrison (PortMagician) sells an ungimmicked linking mints here.
Quote:
Colin Gilbert Released a gimmicked version of this effect. Any one who knows me will also know that I do not gimmick anything if it doesn't need to be and this effect is one of them. You take 2 normal polo mints and with out adding or switching anything you make them melt and link together right under the spectators nose, you then proceed to unlink them and if you want you can eat them due to the fact that there are no gimmicks! Another 100% impromptu miracle form the creative mind of Alan Rorrison. To see a demo click one the effect logo above.

One quick note. This effect will not work with some of the American sweets called life savers, but works with ALL Polo's and Navy Mints!

I would still like to here what type of life savers this will work with.
Then there is also Jon Tremain's linking mints.

There is no reason not to make this prop for yourself from whatever brand of mints is popular where you are. I made mine when I was a college student in the 60s.

Well maybe, but mine is made from a rubber-like material and has a metal piece inside. Not sure how you can make this from "whatever brand of mints is popular where you are". I guess you could make a mold from the real candy and use liquid rubber to make the gimmick. Is that what you mean?

Randwill,

That is not how I did it, but I love to see you busy scheming!

Actually, I took two rolls of the same candy (mine were peppermint in the blue roll). My fake was homemade by first connecting each mint to the next with very thin dental floss. Then I hung it up and put coat after coat of pollyurethane on it. After about five years it did yellow. But it certainly owed me nothing. It was even very washable. (I used baby shampoo.)

Keep on keeping on. It's what makes magicians so different.
