Was he sick or something? Did he die in his sleep?
May he rest in Peace.
He was a master of the cards and wonderful teacher.

It is being reported that he was in declining health for several years and died of complications of Parkinson’s disease.

He was another of the greats who posted on the Magic Café™, asnwered letters, etc. I remember his reasoning for using kings and aces, rathner than jokers and ace(s) for jumping gemini....ie jokers suggest a trick deck,..4 jokers v. 4 kings at the end! He was brilliant, cordial and will be missed by the cafe. Lynn

So sorry to hear of this. Smile

I first saw Darwin at work at the very 1st Metro Magic in NJ, decades ago. He was absolutely amazing! One of the finest card men ever. And I heard that said by one of his oldest friends, that just happens to be considered the greatest coin man ever, David Roth. I remember Roth just sitting there beaming watching his old buddy work.

I remember once asking him about noted card shark, and old friend, DOC. I asked him how good was he? His response was in just 2 words, “Very good!”

RIP

At the risk of being pretentious, the concept of “paradigm,”as explicated in Thomas Kuhn’s “The Structure of Scientific Revolutions,”
applies to Darwin Ortiz. He and David Roth (once jealously referred to “card boy and coin boy” early in their careers) established the parameters of late-20th Century card and coin magic.

Who can say that?

They’re gone. Much missed. Much beholden.

I’m glad I mentioned that, so you could mention this as to two friends, that were two of the very best in their own parts of the art. Both gone way too soon. Again RIP.
