For the gentlemen here on the Café who are married...

How many pairs of shoes does your wife own?
How many do you own?

Perfectly equal if you call a magic DVD a shoe.

I think it is about equal but my wife goes through shoes like a knife through butter whereas some of my shoes are decades old.

I have no idea how many shoes my wife has.

I myself have:

One pair of Redwings. (My daily shoes.)

One pair of running shoes. (I never use them.)

One pair of Birkenstock sandals (I use them in extreme heat.)

One pair of cowboy boots. (Lucchesi)

One pair of dress shoes. (Wing tips, German brand.)

That’s it. When a pair wears out, I replace the pair, but that’s it.

Some years ago my wife turned me on to the concept of buying high quality shoes. Brands like Samuel Hubbard, Mephisto, Josef Seibel, Paul Green etc. They are expensive, but extremely well made, very comfortable, and last for many years. Some of my wife’s shoes are 13 years old and still in great condition!

This sprung to mind....

The reason that the rich were so rich, Vimes reasoned, was because they managed to spend less money.
Take boots, for example. He earned thirty-eight dollars a month plus allowances. A really good pair of leather boots cost fifty dollars. But an affordable pair of boots, which were sort of OK for a season or two and then leaked like hell when the cardboard gave out, cost about ten dollars. Those were the kind of boots Vimes always bought, and wore until the soles were so thin that he could tell where he was in Ankh-Morpork on a foggy night by the feel of the cobbles.

But the thing was that good boots lasted for years and years. A man who could afford fifty dollars had a pair of boots that'd still be keeping his feet dry in ten years' time, while the poor man who could only afford cheap boots would have spent a hundred dollars on boots in the same time and would still have wet feet.

This was the Captain Samuel Vimes 'Boots' theory of socioeconomic unfairness.

I still recall the day I met Beaker from the Muppets. He said to me "Meep, meep, mee mee mee Meep!", and that has made all the difference.

Thanks for your honest review @arthur stead. I am planning to buy a good leather shoe with a wingtip style with brogue patterning. My color preference is brown or tan. The plan is to use it 1-2 days per work week, and possibly extend the shoe's longevity. I am looking forward to Samuel Hubbard shoes here. I am willing to go up to $200 but the shoe must have a good year welt construction.

I own three pairs,

1, the best and most durable pair I've owned, of which I got
in 2018 and still continue to wear, a pair of AND1, they're
basketball shoes, but I wear them as street shoes.
note, I got these shoes for the price of $3.

2, a pair for around the house, I don't recall the brand,
but I refer to them as "cheapos", a descriptive name
of both the shoes and the guy who wears them.

3, and a pair of dress shoes, I don't recall this brand either,
but I refer to them as "slightly too tight".

Ps. welcome to the Café daisy, note, this isn't twitter,
the @ doesn't do anything, it looks cool though.

Ps.Ps. At $200, I could buy 66 pairs of AND1 at the price I paid,
these would last me a total of at least 264 years. (actual math)

The shoe company Reebok introduced a new sneaker in collaboration with the French luxury brand Maison Margiela. The Classic Leather Decortique Tabi Low is distinctive for its "toe-cleavage" design--and now, Indy 100 reported, for being identified as a sign of the Devil. A Facebook page called Prophecy News warned followers that the shoes resemble the feet of Baphomet, a goat deity associated with the occult.
Reebok's Instagram account has drawn similar reactions: "This is so satanic!! My family will never buy another shoe from you," one follower wrote.
Another said, "Satanic, no way will we wear those."
Reebok counters that the shoes are based on a traditional Japanese shoe design called Tabi.

I've got a pair of dress shoes made by Alden, and they are very nice.

I had heel pain once, and my doc recommended a unique shoe made by Oofos. Puts the pressure on the arch and gave my heel time to heal. Fantastic.
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

My wife has the most shoes but I'm not about to pretend I don't have a lot. Winter boots, skate shoes, climbing shoes, weight lifting shoes, dress shoes, shoe gumbo...

My wife has a pair of sandals, and a pair of sneakers.

I have a pair of work shoes and a pair of "slip on" canvas shoes that I can't appear to find right now.

Who'd have thought thirty year ago we'd all be sittin' here drinking Château de Chasselas, eh?

I kid you not, a year later I'm still wearing the same pair of shoes, now lasting over five years.
The adjusted math is now 330 years.
