When I received the smallish envelope of paper props, my first thought was, "I paid $65 for this?"

After opening the envelope, however, and looking at the props, I determined it was money well spent. Unlike some effects- with props so unconvincing you pray that your spec will just play along- the artifacts that come with "Inferno" look like the real deal.

Besides the gorgeous props, you get a manual with three effects:

I. "Game of Elimination"
Presented with six historical artifacts, the spec somehow homes in on the one with the most startling significance.

2. "Inferno"
Spec has a vision of destruction which is shown to be inaccurate...at least, on this plane of existence.

3. "The Third Death"
After being shown specific information about the case, the spec writes down a name. This turns out to be the name of a victim...despite the fact this name apparently did not appear in the evidence s/he was shown!"

The manual also goes into the background of the horrible show business tragedy which inspired these effects (and which I was unaware of until "Inferno!"). Bobby emphasizes how the performance should be respectful of the deceased. Words to the wise. Although the events transpired 70 years ago, there may still be survivors and/or family members out there.

As I've said elsewhere on the Café, what I love about Inferno is its versatility. It can stand on its own. It can be led into by another effect. It can also be used to lead into not just another effect but a full fledged seance (There were some notable names present on the day of the tragedy). Using "Inferno" as a framework, you should be able to create a whole evening's entertainment.

I wholeheartedly recommend "Inferno."

It's impressive to me how much this engages people. Some really good opportunities with a "spectator as mind reader" vibe.

Up in the bizarre magic forum, I started a "favorite 2014 purchases" thread. So far, "Inferno" is the most cited effect.

I'm wondering whether a Sp***t B**l could be worked into this routine? I have a H**b's B** from Outlaw that I'm using for another routine, and I thought maybe I could segue them together somehow in an unexpected way. Thoughts, anyone?

It absolutely could. As I said in my review, "Inferno" can be used to lead in to a full fledged seance.

When you have 50 posts, come down to "The Crypt." We have a great thread down there with all sorts of ideas for "Inferno."

I just got "Inferno" today, and I want to add to the chorus of praise to Bobby Hasbun for his meticulous care in creating the "historical" artifacts that come with the effect. These are so genuine, the instructions rightly come with a warning and appeal to customers not to sell the stuff on EBAY as the real thing. Seriously, if Bobby wanted to, he could become an expert forger. There is no way that anyone who isn't a specialist in this arcana--and I mean a specialist--would be able to tell these from the originals.

As for the patter that comes with the routine, it is as well thought-out and carefully put together as everyone on the thread here says it is. Brilliant.

Very interesting topic but as in the Crypt most of it is about the nice props.

But I'm very interested in some reviews about the effects!

Are the effects strong?

Easy to perform and do they always 100% hit? Like with the name???

Any info would be great, I like the props and I can see there are lots of options for story telling here, but how are the effects?

Thanks so much!
John

The effects are great but completely rely on your ability to tell a story and imbue the experience with meaning.

And they're surefire methods, even the name thing.

Old thread, but I just ordered mine today...after reading about it here and also seeing that it was voted best trick of 2014. Question- why does this trick seem so secretive? By that I mean, you won't find it on Penguin or other major sites...and if you do a google search you find very little. Never have I seen a Magic Café trick of the year will so little 'buzz' outside of these forums. Any input or thoughts would be appreciated.

Well, have a think about magic as a performance art, and what goes on behind the scenes to make it look and feel like magic... don't see it as just something to buy and consume (not saying you personally do)...

then think about the pros and cons of the implications of keeping a secret...

Many of the coolest products aren't necessarily on penguin or available through distribution.

Bobby is a good friend here in Phoenix and he created an amazing release.

I just saw him a few days ago to score him a set of my SvenPad release - which by the the way will probably never ever be on penguin.

Sometimes the best things take a little more effort to find but are worth it.

Sometimes the best things are boutique items - hand crafted - not widely released.
