I have an old Axtell Remote Controlled Drawing Board which operated on 4 size C alkaline batteries. I want to convert it to a rechargeable version where I want to use Lithium Ion batteries. Problem is these batteries are at 3.7V each and I need only 6V power. If I use 2, that would amount to 7.2V and might burn the unit. Not sure.
What can I do?

Add a couple of diodes in series - the forward voltage loses approx 0.5 v for each diode.

@Lou,
Nick is right, and be sure to test as some diodes drop as much as 1vdc. You can also find 6vdc solutions that are rechargeable, depending on your requirements of size, weight, power (draw), etc. that are ready to go. The following links are just to show you what is out there, and approx. how much-I am not suggesting these as the cheapest: https://www.ebay.com/p/ZAP-Toys-6-Volt-N......08054683 This one is 12AH!!! http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mighty-Max-6V-12......9cNZ3Wh0 This a flat version with an "on/off" switch: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Prevalent-4xAA-B......OtdYVCXs For $20 here, you get 2 killer batteries and a charger: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-UB645-PS640-6-......XwBZnuV9 If you just need replacement C cells that are rechargeable, lots to choose from: https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_......atteries If you are already invested in AAs, like I am, these are just what the Dr. ordered: https://www.amazon.com/Battery-Sackorang......atteries ...and I'd be remiss if not suggesting you consider the cheaper alternatives, like 4x 1.5v AA rechargeables in something like: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1Pcs-4-X-AA-Size......bsBXjX8I ...as 2400+ maH are much more common & cheaper than, say, 8150s.

You could also use a small buck/boost converter and just set the output to whatever it is supposed to be then use whatever pack you want.
as an example. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008ATU2X8/ref......46757833 sparkfun also carries usb lipo recharge circuits if you want to integrate them into your design directly. I have had good luck with their products for rapid prototyping when I just need a widget to get the job done. https://www.sparkfun.com/search/results?term=recharge+lipo |

The boost converter is a great idea to simplify the process.
It's great to learn something new! |
