Very good start! Keep your eyes open now for some antique hardware to replace those trunk latches.

Mak Magic did make a natural wood Guillotine that looked more like a real Guillotine. Just thought I would mention it.

Yeah, thank you. I tried to locate different models but had no luck till this one.
The one I bought in '65 (give or take) was wood and very light. I think I still have a 3 inch splinter buried somewhere. Smile This one is of '92 vintage, I believe.

In defense of this prop, I worked 5 seasons at theme parks and this is the only one that could take the grind.

Certainly an attribute one looks for in a device that mimics chopping someone's head off! Smile

Wiz Kid Ee-Gee Fiki is also restoring an old Grant Guillotine, but instead of antiquing it, is planning to spook it up a bit. You can see his progress here on the Wiz Kid site: http://www.wizkidzinc.com/Eleazar/eleazar.htm

It's taken him 2 years, working on and off, to get this far, but he's just 13 and still learning wood working... in between clarinet practice, football practice, and a bunch of other interests, including ventriloquism. Instead of making it look old, he plans to add a "talking" skull to the top bar and use the mouth of the skull to hold onto the chain that holds up the blade. When the skull starts to jabber, the chain slips out of his mouth and down comes the blade, as if by accident.

I think he'll actually finish it this time because the Wiz Kids have a Halloween Show they are working on together, and the guillotine will be a special feature of the show. They don't want it TOO scary... just funny scary.
