You'll find "Do-It-Yourself" construction instructions included in my Mind-Reading Puppets e-Book in The Wizards' Journal #18 on my site.

I have a ide but idont know if it will work.
If I put a bit of wax on my thumb and stick a bit of a pencil in that.
Would that work?

I doubt that will work very well. Why not just buy Spellbinder's ebook if you want to make it yourself.

There is a dvd called Syzygy on swami that has a lot of useful information on the swami gimmick.

Take a 1/2" tumbtack drill a hole in the center of it the size of the pencil lead and Crazy Glue the lead to the thumbtack. Paint it a color close to your skin. then get some flora clay to stick to your thumb. or just buy one.

That Syzygy DVD by Lee Earle mentioned earlier also teaches you how to make a good band writer based on a guitar pick.

As others have said, Swami Gimmicks are not expensive and you may be best advised to just buy them.

The problem with the commercial band writers is that they rarely fit entirely around a thumb. I have fairly small hands and cannot get a band writer to stay on properly. they just about make it around 1/2 of my thumb and fall off as soon as I start to write. Lee Earle's guitar pick writer makes more sense, unless they start making band writers that encircle the thumb more.

Arthur (Martello): Try one of your loose band writers with a bit of double-sided carpet tape on the inside.

Swami Gimmicks and thumbtip writers are very cheap and easier to ditch than a lot of homemade gimmicks.

I used a Vernet Thumbtip Writer for many years. It wrote in grease pencil which showed up well. Its smaller/shorter than a standard thumbtip and I never had any problems getting it on or off. Its really invisible, not that anyone is looking. And I highly recommend them to anyone.
