I'm looking to build, sculpt, create a large Dove inside a cage. The Dove would appear inside an empty cage. Not sure of the best method of making the dove. I thought it could be a large sponge material, which would be fine for stage magic. However if anyone can think of a way to make it in foam latex, please pm or email me.

Depending on how "durable" you want it to be, I would have thought polystyrene would be the obvious material. It's easy to carve, and you can build up whatever thickness you require by sticking say 3" sheets together.

Depending ont he size you need, you can try getting a block of foam rubber and trimming it with scissors to sculpt your dove. I have done this for other animal shapes I wanted for various items. Find an upholstery person in your town ans ask for a few foam scraps form them to practice with .
