Well... Seems I have trouble with this... I have to wonder if a 'real' pom pom pole has the same troubles... If I relax my arm in a certain way the top pom poms fall off and drag the lower ones up, and it looks really sloppy...

What, on a manufactured pompom pole keeps the top pompoms sliding off and messing things up?

Nothing. I've had the same thing happen sometimes.

Keep playing with it and get used to the prop so you know it better.... and can control it.

All the best,

Chris

Your pom pom is to large, make it a little smaller and it will set on top of the stick or pole.

Sew fishing weights into the bottom pom poms. I haven't had a problem since I did that 18 years ago!

Throw away the Pom Pom poles and go to http://www.stevensmagic.com and buy the Plumber's Sticks version. Masculine and funny.

What kind of string do you use for making a good PomPom pole?

Braided nylon is the best string. It can be found in a furniture fabric shop. It is used to make filler for the piping around pillows and such.

Thanks Wmhegbli!

I have tried a kind of braided string with core inside, but it did not work smoothly.

Try using the string used for Diablo Sticks. It's a little on the "thin" side for Pom Pom Poles, but I have used it successfully and it doesn't bunch up when you store it.

I've never had this problem, but perhaps a "fluffier" pom-pon allows it to "seat" on the stick.

The plumbers stick never made sense to me, seems kinda stupid, IMO.

I kinda think it's brilliant, IMO and makes perfect sense.

I know I'm coming in late on this... But the pompom trick is sometimes not very magical and quite lame?

I liked the brightly colored and high visibility aspect of it... Any similar "pretty" tricks that play well to a larger crowd?

When I began combining the Pom-Pom Pole with my Pom-Pom Critters (The Wizards' Journal #13) it made a lot more sense. The Pom-Poms have a life of their own, you see, and like to hang by their tails from the pole. At the end, they jump off the pole and scurry around, ending with a big production of lots of Pom-Pom Critters of all sizes and colors.
