Anyone ever wonder why Tenyo used to make that claim?

1. Any trick requires practice, even a self-working one.
2. They put that claim even on the tricks that were a little more difficult to do than others.

Simply to generate sales. They were mainly targeted at laymen and often even children. Claims if no practice translate to higher sales I am sure.

Yes, that's probably the reason. I wonder if perhaps the translation from Japanese wasn't exact. Maybe it didn't literally mean "no practice" in Japanese. It might have meant something similar to "no sleight of hand" or "no difficult moves."

"self-working"... "easy to do".... "no practise needed"... are slogans that have been used to sell magic for years... of course we know the truth is different in most cases. As you point out even the easiest trick requires practise to do well. In some ways no diffrent then "never needs sharpening", "grow grass in 7 days", "removes all stains", "lose 30 pounds in 20 days" Smile

Ha, I'm so glad someone mentioned this. I remember buying Flash Dice a few years ago, and I love the old packaging. I saw that and thought -- but, you have to know *something* about the trick!

I have seen ONE self-working, no-practice trick. It was an iPhone version of Prince's card (if you've seen Tempest do this at TED?) by Andrew Mayne and it was kinda hilarious.

But "no practice" makes me giggle every time. "Low practice" is accurate, but when is advertising accurate?

If you want a laugh, check out the packaging for Lucifer's Lock. Not only does that trick require plenty of practice to perform well, the picture on the back of the packaging is completely misleading!

Thanks Ed.

Not new to magic, the Café or even Tenyo but yes, new to the Tenyo board!
I've enjoyed learning much more about them and the best (and worst) tricks.

I'm looking forward to more.

Curious - what Tenyo do you use in a paid show?
