Not stage hypnosis, but entertainment hypnosis none the less. One thing I've always thought was interesting was that despite the "controversy" about Derren (which, admittedly, was never big) there's not much in the way of people sharing their side of things. I always assumed there was an NDA situation going on, or that the experience shown on the shows was accurate enough that no one felt the need to give their side.

Any thoughts? Seems like this was pretty much accurately presented during that episode.

Funny, I get kind of the opposite perspective. One of the things that happens (whether we like it or not) is after every performance when people come up to you at your merch/autograph table/meet & greet to meet you is they all want to tell you how they felt, what they feel like, what they remember and their overall experience. I think performers hear this side of things all the time.

I think that is part of the buzz following a show is everyone asking and those that participated talking and sharing their experiences with all who ask. That is part of being one of the"stars" of the show, isn't it?

I think he is good at the publicity part to a point. Personally I have never enjoyed his show.

You also hear very little from any of the Copperfield stooges, (I'm not saying Derren uses stooges.) and Copperfield has LEGIONS of them. Especially on his network offerings.

I think the problem becomes that it goes too far to be believed, independent of stooging or reality of anything. It makes it way roo easy to dismiss for any but the most ardent supporters.

He advertises for people makes them jump through hoops to be on the show. Then he uses the best people for the show out of the selection process and gets them to sign legal documents. Basically the people you see want to be on the show so badly they would do anything.

Here is a guy on Reddit telling you his experience "being hypnotized".

I liked his early mentalism shows. The first and second series. After that never liked his other stuff I found it to be really boring. But he has done really well keeping in the eye of the public for so long. So who am I to criticize?

Yes, this story was pretty much accurately presented during that episode. The reason we don't hear much about this side of the story is that most people after the show don't express it anywhere but with their friends. It is like great experience but they forget in a few days and move onto the next thrill. That is the generation we live in.
For those who believe, no explanation is necessary; for those who do not believe, no explanation will suffice.

For stooges read paid employees as that is what they are in something like a Copperfield act.
We all know that DC does have NDAs for all his team whether they be on stage assistants, in audience stooges or work anywhere else.
So they would not be disclosing anything for fear of serious legal action.

As for people who take part in Derren's show, are they picked form the public? Does any money exchange hands?

I guess they meant..."staged" or for publicity?
