It's David's take on a Pit Hartling effect from the book "Card Fictions". It is not stack related.

I own the book, which I find is REALLY great! on this effect, though, I don't know if I would letting do it by the Spec in all situations... e.g. if you have to save your life with just one trick

The magician needs to give the spec a little tutorial before the big moment. This onl takes a few seconds and can be done in the presentation of the effect as opposed to pre-show
