I counted well over 100 tricks in the "What is your favorite..." thread. Many of these I did not know (Queens Out Of Control, Entourage, the Ton Onasaka ones, etc.)

There were more than 20 in my magic drawer, but I only use 3 on a regular basis.

How many do you include in your performance?

Peter Kane's "Gypsy Curse" (the original)

Gary Freed's "N F W"

Jay Sankey's "One Car Garage"

Not much, huh?

FWIW

Which one of these did your friend 'invent'?

I use...

Brainwave
Mirage (modified for a rather specific purpose)
Mental Photography (Let's face it, it just looks slick)

Other than that, I pretty much stopped using other packet effects.
A Trick? Well yes there are quite a few "tricks" I can do, but alas there are women and children present. Find me later.

I don't think any of the above three can be classified as 'packet tricks'. They are fully gaffed decks in their own right.

I'm sorry: I did not mean for this to be a list thread again.

I actually wanted to discuss how many gaffed effects fit into an average performance. If I do 3 sets of 3 tricks, typically 1 per set is gaffed, for a total of 3 gaffed effects.

Is that too many?

None of those. This is a different and no where sold deck and has no name right now, it is a full deck. The name will be given by author, but I have an idea for it.

Fully gaffed decks like the Invisible Deck, The Brainwave Deck, and Mental Photography Deck are NOT packet effects.

A packet effect by definition uses a "packet" of cards.

DOH!

Pardon my ignorance.

Really, I'm very very sorry. I get my terms messed up sometimes, keep in mind up until I joined here, I knew maybe 1-2 actual good magicians, and I really get lost sometimes when it comes to terminology, I'm totally sorry about the mixup!

Will, don't sweat it.

Search back through the Café, don't just stick with the "hot" threads.

The Café is the ultimate resource if used like a book as opposed to a chat room.

Regardless, there's nothing to be remotely sorry about!

There are only two packet tricks that I'll use.
However, I don't use them in any sets or other performances but prefer to use them as "a little something extra".

In a performance of any length I only use one packet trick B'wave, Color Monte or Sinner's Monte. Personally I think it challanges logic to use more that one because in my mind it causes the suspicion of trick cards.

I'm not sure that laymen even have a reference point to understand what a "packet trick" is.

It's all about how you bring them in and out of your routine.

Color Monte
Eight Ball
Two great tricks. Easy to carry, different, hard hitting...always ready...and you end clean and can hand out everything.
Cards are different than normal cards so there's a reason why they come in their own packet.

I put 2 packets into my deck - the cards are able to be hidden easilly

3 Card Monte
Card Warp (1 cut card)

First I do (does this count?) Card warp with just 2 random cards - then pull the 3 card monte - then tricks
Caj Brejtfus
CajMagic and the CAJ Deck of Magic Gaff Cards
