Does the SAM have all back issues of MUM on disk or listed on the website, and is it searchable?

Thanks

Jeff I am sure someone has to have a library of all the issues as a part of the SAM Library. I am just not sure who would be a part of that or in charge of doing so. I do know they do have an extensive book library as well as a video library that members can take videos out from. I will see if I can ask a few folks and see if they might know. If they do not have anything on dosc, that would be a great project to do. It certainly would take a lot of hard work and effort, but having an extensive electronic file library of MUM that is searchable for topics, would be a huge benefit for magicians. Hmmm

PS: Jeff, are you planning on attending the convention this year in Lousivlle?

I believe you can index them on Askalexander.org.

Greetings Jeff:

They are in fact available on a CD which was created by Past National President Warren Kaps. The CD is called Magic of the MUM and can be purchased from Gifts & Insignia on the website http://www.magicsam.com. These are available for sale at every National Covention at the SAM Booth as well.

Let me know if you would like to order one and I will get your information to Jean Kinnicutt who is the Chairperson for the Gifts and Insignia.

I thought I remembered a compilation disc set. Isn't it on 2 seperate discs? Also, do they just cover the tricks that were published, or the entire publication?

I have this CD, which, if memory serves, was coedited by Mr. Kaps, David Goodsell, and George Schindler. While it is a fine overview of numerous excellent effects that appeared in the pages of MUM through the years, it is not what Mr. Pierce is looking for.

Jeff, I agree that having a searchable electronic version of every issue of MUM extant would be a marvelous research tool. If you would like to see it happen, the person to talk to is probably MUM editor John Moehring. His email address is in your current issue.

I just checked on AskAlexander and there is not a searchable index for MUM currently on the web.

I remembered when I first joined S.A.M., I did receive a compliment CD with some of the past MUM in archive. I'm wondering if this is still available?

It is still available. But it is simply a compilation of selected effects, not a research tool.

Neil,

Do you know if anyone has brought up trying to do something like this? I know it would be a huge undertaking but just curious as it would have so much value to researchers and others.

I would love to help out if anyone ever decides to try and begin something like this. However, at the moment I am working with Jean Kincutt(sp) on designing stuff for the Louisville convention as well as possibly proposing to create a full graphic database of the logos and all artwork used by the SAM in various forms and formats.

As I was designing the shirts for the convention, I realized that the artwork seemed to be all over the place and I talked with Jean about the idea of having me redo everything in a format that printers can use and then creating the final formats for web, print etc. and then having these available on CD as well as on the website.

It is a project I am just starting now and will be in more talks with Jean and with Andy Dallas to try and get official approvals to get it done. I think it is something a lot of folks can benefit from. We shall see.

It would be my pleasure to do this for the SAM as a way of giving back what the SAM has given me.
