Fellow Ring Members (especially you attorney types):
My name is Bob Meigs, and I am the secretary of Ring 76 in San Diego, California. We are thinking of incorporating our Ring as a 501C-6 nonprofit corporation, an action recommended to us at the 2010 Convention.

Our reasons for incorporating are primarily to reduce the potential liability of members and officers, and to create a legal entity that can contract in it's own name. We recognize, of course, that some initial paperwork and annual tax filings are required, even though no taxes would be owed.

We are very interested in hearing of anyone's experiences in incorporating a Ring - especially if you are aware of any potential pitfalls. If you have any suggestions or comments, please post in this thread, PM me, or email me at carshows@sbcglobal.net

I think (not certain) that our Ring is incorporated as a 503C-7 (fraternal non-profit).

His face isn't really this long in-person!
