OK, I don't know about anybody else, but if I'm pickpocketing during magic, I don't want people to be suspicious until the end, so for me the, ok lets see what you have in your inside pocket, oh a wallet, we don't want to take that, and its gone approach doesn't really work for me, any other ideas to get into the inside jacket pockets?

Hey Mate!
I know what you mean about saying, Ohh look, you wallet has now gone." What I do, which is working quite well, is I do ambitious card or whatever and I saw the card has dissapeared. I palm of the card, go into their jacket and remove whatever I find. I do that with a few pockets that might be hard for me to steal. However, of course the best way would be to pickpocket them without knowing like bob arno does in the worlds greatest magic clip as he steals a piece of paper from the man inside breast pocket. Hope I helped. JaY-JaY

Ben,
Have you picked up Derren Brown's Absolute Magic? It has a great pickpocket section. It address's what your talking about and offers up some solutions. I personally think every pickpocket out there should have this book. |

If you're inviting them up on stage, go out into the audience to greet them, then on you as you begin to escort them towards the stage, "help" them to take off their coat, idicating that they won't need it on stage. Just prior to handing their coat over to the person seated next to them (for safe keeping), you've had a tremendous opportunity (and a tremendous amount of time to dip into all of their inside and outside pockets. By the time they arrive center stage, you've got their wallet, cell phone, keys, etc. and you're wearing his glasses and plashing his wathc behind him. You proceed with your on stage routine, having the volunteer help and make the reveals whenever the timing is right.
Hope this helps. May not be the most "delicate" way to steal, but it is theatrical and definitely works (for me)! Jonathan

Another possibility I have used is to use some excuse where you draw attention to their belt or waist. You can then very naturally part their jacket open with both hands as you direct attention to say their belt buckle area. You can then lift the inside pocket, provided you do it while drawing their attention back up to you with eye-to-eye.
