What's the best value for Casino Game Protection, the Forte DVD's or the book?

If you're in the know on them both, please let me know, but I definitely can't afford them both!

I have them both....

Mmmmmm, I think the videos are better in terms of actualy seeing moves performed.... the book as more detail and insight....I highly recommend both.

Neither is designed to explain and teach the mechanics of advanced technique....but, if you already know how to do the moves, it is possible to understand and pick up variations.

The videos will also make it easier for you to recognize moves if someone is using them against you.

If it was me, I would start with the videos .... but, if you want to learn actual technique other sources are better teaching sources if you want to perform bottoms, seconds, stocks, etc.

I would get the videos just because I like videos better than books. if you like books then I think they might be the better choice. if you like them both equally then I would go with the tapes as well.

They're so completely different no meaningful comparison can be made in my opinion. The videos were a peculiar project that Steve did half-heartedly when he was 28 years old. They just happen to contain some of the most unbelievable sleight of hand you've ever seen on them, but almost none of the moves shown are applicable to modern casino games.

Casino Game Protection is a treatise on exactly what the title says. It won't teach you how to cheat, but it's a step in that direction I guess. I found it fascinating reading. Don't think you'll learn any moves from it, because you almost certainly won't (though you may learn enough to struggle through a move that's described briefly in the book). The goal of the book is to provide an overview of various methods and strategies used by casino cheats and advantage players. This is does wonderfully.

The overlap between the two items (the videos as a set and the book) is virtually nil. So, what are you looking to get out of your purchase? A look at some great moves performed by a fantastic card handler or 700 pages on how table games can be cheated and ways to prevent that from happening?

Thanks Expertmagi and Jason, although I'm not looking for a learning DVD, I'd really like to see Steve's moves!

I think it was you Jason, that posted a while back that it's not correct to think that, even though Steves DVD isn't a teaching DVD that there's nothing to be learned by watching it, not the moves per se, but what one of the best actually looks like while performing them......that alone is a lesson not to be had elsewhere.

I've actually ordered up the Richard Turner and David Malek DVD's to get a closer look at the hands on. I understand that they're good, but that Steve's DVD's cover all the table games, not just cards.

Having said that, and after reading both of your posts above, I'm going to start with the book, and pick up the DVD's after reading it.......... (sounds like $400.00 to me, I'll have to cut down on the wine, women, and song!)

If you want actual casino game protection, then get the book... if you want some card moves for the private games and some casino games then get the vids..The GPS series is only on video, not dvd..

Yeah that is a deffinate downside to the tapes. there quality is not quite as good as a dvd.

The turner DVD I thought was just about the same thing?

The tapes are great but they are not moves for casino like poker games they are more for home games and I think Forte says that or words to that effect. I think there are some moves that could be addapted for casino like poker but that is not what they are about really. They are the best there is I think. What I mean is if you were a casino poker dealer there would be little on these tapes that you could make use of.

Just for clarification, Steve has no DVDs. The GPS series is still only available on VHS at this present time.

In your case, I'd recommend the tapes first...

You won't be disappointed with either the book or the videos.

Incidentally, while I used to bemoan the fact that the GPS wasn't on DVD, here in recent years I've come to love the fact that they aren't.

When you see them, you'll appreciate the tiny bit of exclusivity that having them available on a nearly obsolete format provides.

And if you're smart, you'll relish that exclusivity, because it won't last. At some point, perhaps years in the future, perhaps tomorrow, Steve will release them on DVD. I for one hope it's years from now.

Do you mean "will he ever release the GPS on dvd?" If that's what you're asking, then I think the answer is yes. He says the only thing holding him back is that the videos still sell and he's got a crate of them in his garage. Plus he's got a dozen or so other projects that are more important to him at the moment.

Andrew is correct. Steve has competed a first draft of Poker Protection but isn't rushing it to print. There have been several other books released in the past few months on cheating at poker (in one form or another) and he's waiting to see what happens to them before he releases his.

He's still got to clean up the book (or do another draft if that's what he wants) and then shoot the photos, get it laid out, etc. The book is still a few months off at the earliest, and probably a year or so off in reality.

He's got a few other "interesting" projects in the works as well.
