Theres so many better and quicker things to use than use culling, why waste time with it ?

Btw Cag, I have heard many stories about Jackie Gaughan and he was a real gentlemen. If you were in trouble, and a guy who worked there for a long time, Jackie would help you, you wont see guys like him anymore.

Thanks for the link.

I would say that the shuffle is nicely performed as a demo. After five shuffles and you have brought 3 cards to the top, now what do you do? You have just shuffled five times. You don't have any more shuffling time left. But as a display of skill, it is nicely "performed."

Here are a couple of things to keep in mind with these demo moves which are designed for the magician/hobbyist set.

The first is this. Is he using a random distribution deck? It is easier to perform The Stevens' Cull if you space the desired cards before shuffling or if you have one or two of the desired cards already on top. I'm not saying that is the case here, but something to keep in mind with demos.

Also, did he record the first attempt or the best out of 5 or 10 attempts? We don't know and we don't know how many shuffles preceded the start of the video. We were not shown a random distribution deck to start with.

Lastly, for those of you who want to tackle this move, when using the "cupped" type hand position on the shuffle, one can spread the cards when shuffling to give an advance peek at the cards still to fall. This makes it easier to stop at the desired card with some type of reasonable speed.

Once again, I am not being critical because the move was well performed as a demo. But, and this is a big but, what do you do with it after to have brought your three cards to the top and now have no more shuffle time left before the deal?

I'm not saying all the methodology inherent in the Stevens' cull is of no value and doesn't have some variant usage. However, suffice it to say the way it is demonstrated and the way Vernon described it is useless at the card table in my opinion. It is simply a move in a vacuum with no application.

Thanks again for the link.

Yes. He was legendary, well respected and a man from a different era.
