I was planning on adding some juggling to my magic show. Because of the support Al Angello gave me the past weekend with silks, I will add that to my show. It is a lot easier than anything else. And there is no need to worry about anything falling and hitting a kid. The colored silk makes a good attention getter. I bet as the audience is watching me they will think I am using the same amount of skill as juggling balls. Easy magic tricks can be included with the silk too. Thanks, Al.

I know silk can blow away easy outside. Is is a good idea to glue/tape/sew a small weight on each silk? I can understand the silk will come down faster. Will the weight disturb anything with the silk? Is there any disadvantage with adding weight to a silk when juggling?

Adding a weight to a silk handkerchief or nylon juggling scarf will completely counteract the air resistance gained by the fabric.

That is to say, a silk with a weight ain't a juggling silk.

If you're juggling with silks/scarves, it's an indoor act. And only in places where the a/c isn't blowing directly on you. It's kind of like doing a bubble show.

If you're working outdoors...learn to juggle something else. If you can juggle three scarves indoors, the amount of time it will take to learn to juggle them outdoors in the wind will have been better spent learning to juggle three balls.

Good luck,

Brian

The scarves we used last week were Dube's.

Do not limit yourself to just doing the cascade, there are many simple tricks that you can do with juggling scarves.

It's really not that huge a step between basic silk and ball juggling, and I know which I'd prefer to do outside. BTW, youtube is a reasonable resource for juggling, we don't have secrets in the same way as magicians.

Yea, you right, Tom. I was taking a peak at youtube and learned some more about scarf juggling already.

As a magician who "juggles", I find silk fun and opens up lots of possibilities.

Some of the elementary schools in my area teach scarf juggling.

A fun routine I have used for quite awhile involves a sound activated dancing chicken. (Started back when I was thin and had hair)
Starts out slow..as does my juggling.
As the music gets faster I move the tosses further to my left and right.
At the close I turn and catch the last scarf in my mouth.

Not exactly the creme de creme of the juggling world....it does play well. (aside as I get older this routine is not in as many of my shows these days..perhaps if I used it more often I would be thinner)

Do you think scarf juggling will make a good work shop after a magic show?

Yes, it does have the potential to make a good workshop, there's a guy over in the states called Dave Finnigan who makes a good living out of silk juggling workshops (amoungst other things). Some of his stuff is on the internet.

An other good work shop to include is feather balancing. In about 15 min all the children will be balancing peacock feathers on their hand.It will make the customer feel like they got their moneys worth for the workshop since you showed them all how to do it.

I bought the nylon material to make the scarves yesterday. What size should I cut the scarves to be?
