I wrote this a while back intending it for a children's book. Thought I'd share since clowns (as usual) are being slammed in another thread on the Café. Some will think it corny...but those who share the Red Nose will understand.

Why Clowns?

Ever pondered why God made the very first clown?
What happened to cause Him, one day, to send down
a being so silly, inept and absurd;
filled fully with laughter; why He wanted it heard?

I have.

Ever notice their brilliance midst bright rainbow hues
from the tip of their hats to their very large shoes;
their noses of red and faces of color,
some that are tall and some so much smaller?

I have.

Ever peer at gloved fingers clowns squeak & play tricks through
and pockets so big you could nearly climb into;
or where clowns find smiles that go on forever
and that gleam in each eye, so sparkling and clever?

I have.

Ever laughed really loud at a boisterous antic
from a clown that appears just so funny and frantic;
belly laughs, snorters or a delicate giggle
that won’t let you sit still so you waggle and wiggle?

I have.

Ever wondered what magic lives down deep inside
each really real clown that can’t be denied;
that makes each so happy to open their lives
and leads them to laughter as a way to survive?

I have.

Have you ever looked deep into the eyes of a clown
and detected the spirit that conquers each frown;
the spirit all true clowns will freely impart;
this spirit of laughter that lives in each heart?

I have.

And if you look deeper, you’ll see…Yes! You will!
The true clown is blessed with a call to fulfill;
a predestined labor from Heaven above
the greatest of gifts; clowns deliver His Love!

I have.

So you see, my young friend, it’s really quite clear,
Clowns are not creatures to run from or fear
or hide from or badger or stash out of view.
No! Clowns became clowns because they love you.

I do.
