There are many bands that make a living doing other band's songs. They are called called "Tribute Bands" I can only hope that this gentleman's act is introduced as a "tribute" to Lance Burton. Every move, prop, clothing, set design, is the EXACTLY the same. If it is not a tribute, and he does not give credit to Lance Buton in some way, it is the most blatant rip off of another person's material I have ever seen.

I can't stand this. I hope I get to judge or appear at a show with this guy, I would refuse to score him at all.

BTW, He can't even come remotely close to Lance or any good act!!!!

Like any copy it is nowhere near as brilliant as the original.

His steals and moves are quite lame.

Here is my favorite part though. he obviously had several cameras shooting. But the best part is this. Look at the audience pan shot which he is obviously claiming to have worked this for. Then listen to the applause! The audience is obviously very underwhelmed.

I bet if someone looked, it was an audience shot from a magic special of some sort. I just have a feeling.

That part is opinion mind you. The obvious part is the theft of the act. Unless he paid Lance for it.

Looks like it was contest act at a small regional convention to me or a small phone show.

You'd think if he was going to do a tribute he would try to do it well.

OK, I'm the guy you're talking about - the guy in that video. Whose this Lance guy you're all talking about? Lance who? I came up with all this on my own!

It is possible that someone would accidentally come up with the exact same routine. It's just that the odds are something like 638,327,028,406 to 1, by my calculations. But possible!

There's something fishy about the video, I think. Something Monty Pythonesque about it--as if it's a spoof rather than an imitation. The guy also looks Russian, if you ask me.

I find it funny that when he posts text in "About This Video" he says:

"Important Please Read Everything Below...

Probably the worst copy of Lance Burton's signature act. Do you agree?
Rate 4-5 I agree it's the worst copy.
Rate 1-3 I do not agree it's not the worst copy. "

Now that's a clever way to troll for high ratings (NOT!!)

Thanks to Dave Major for giving us all something to consider and to ChrisK for posting The Original for comparison.

Ken is right, this also happens in in various art forms and museums of fine art. Without names I was invited to a fine art (paintings) show by one of Picasso's students she's now about 80-85 yrs old and a good friend. Her father was C.Chaplin cinematographer. There were tributes there and I asked her why. She told me that so long as the artist signs and releales in writing such a registered piece that it is ok. I still feel it's wrong in any art form. I guess I may refer to it as bite the bullet.

Don't forget the dancing!
I love the hands on the hip move.
It's like the Korean version of the Time Warp.

Randi, thanks for the link. In a bizarre way, I actually enjoyed the copy more than the original.

There was a missing element in that act..can't put my finger on it...maybe the missing element was Lance?

Stealing someone's act isn't a tribute. Anyone who argues otherwise has a very different view of respect and homage then me.

I've had the pleasure of seeing Johnny Thompson do a Vernon tribute a few times over the last few days. He does a trick of Vernon's, even matching his VOICE while doing it.

Here's the catch- it's not a Vernon trick. Johnny made it up, and has Vernon saying things he didn't really say but that he MIGHT have. He didn't rip of Vernon- he created something in his honor.

A GOOD tribute band doesn't steal songs- they cover them. They use the original for inspiration and create something recognizable but unique to them.

This guys a hack.
