Its a method for remembering items on a list. The system works on remembering 5 items by associating them with each of your pockets.
Ive seen this recently somewhere on a page in an old book perhaps whilst I was surfing the web or ebay but....well... I forgot! Any ideas?

Association is a basic memory technique and you can find it basically anywhere. It's not exclusively for magic.

I think the method you are referring to is 'Memory Palace' otherwise known as 'Method of Loci'. The idea is to mentally associate the items you want to remember with specific locations in a familiar environment (in this case, pockets). If you want a particular source, check out the book 'Moonwalking with Einstein'. Also there are plenty of articles on Google explaining it.

Thanks guys. Im aware of the memory palace just never heard it used with pockets before.

Pockets is a good method. A whole palace is a little overwhelming to beginners

Right. I think maybe I was thinking of The Tarbell Rapid Memory Act in Volume 8 of the Tarbell books.
