Actually Chris, you are in one heck of a great position to redefine yourself as an entertainer in the field of mentalism...especially if you are just coming off a sabbatical from Magic and re-entering with an eye toward Mentalism.

I did the same thing once. The sabbatical gave me a much-needed opportunity to 'clean house' and ditch all the unnecessary props I'd collected, clear out the books and manuscripts I would never really use and simply start over--but with a much wiser eye. You know, obtaining only what I NEED, not what I impulsively WANT. Big difference.

No one here is going to recommend the "Holy Grail of Effects" that meets your requirements. That elusive icon is different for everybody because it all depends on your personality, on-stage character, personal preferences, goals, etc.

I just want to point out that, if you play your cards right (pun intended), you are in a much better position than ever before to find what you are looking for in this Art. Good luck.

Best,
Mick

I bit my tongue a little, but I'll say this:

you've asked questions
you've been given answers
whether those answers are what you wanted to hear is a different matter
you have the one book all mentalists should read
you have the answers within that book
you then tell us you are impatient and you want things NOW
if that's the case - mentalism may not be for you..if you're after that instant gratification thing
and you don't want to put a lot of practice in? say what?

I'm a little confused as to what you want to achieve...

regardless, that's up to you and your wallet - enjoy re-reading 13 steps and good luck...

Richard Osterlind has put out the "Easy to Master Mental Miracles" DVD's

On these DVD's you will find routines that are in the classics mentioned above, but you will get to see an experienced performer actually performing them in front of real people.

There is no quick road to greatness, but the journey is a lot of fun!

Chrispa1......your presentation of any effect will determine the audience reaction. Rely on your imagination more than on the "props" that you may or may not use. If you were in the audience what could you see that would "knock your socks off?' Then figure out a way to do it.

Man, you have got to be joking right?
(Would you dare walk into a dance studio, art class etc and say what you did to start this thread?)

Very funny Smile

Fast easy and strong Smile
Equivoque is not fast to learn not even easy ( you must practice a lot to mastering the equivoque technique)
Watch Bergals the master of equivoque.
He didn't learn and mastering in 2mn lol

I like the Alain Bellon's thinking about equivoque technique very clever

I guess I should have looked at the title of the thread a bit closer. Besides, no mentalism is fast and easy. Smile

I am glad you all are getting your rocks off by being sarcastic. I was just asking and only wanted some positive type of replies. Nice way to welcome folks here. You could have just said what you already have and left it there. I am sorry for even asking. For the ones that honestly want to help and have send me PM messages, thanks.

No easy road for sure. It is a continually learning process, no matter of what level you are at. I too like streamlined effects but its the "acting" and experience with a live audience that gives the art meaning.

The secret is found in the spectator not you. It takes two to tango, mirror time is of little use.

Like the Dr ordered, the ID is a great easy routine. Its how you present it that matters. I use it as an out most of the time but it is really effective as a suggestive device. Have everyone at the table think of a card. You choose the person who is thinking of the reversed card in the deck. SHort and sweet but played and acted out nicely you have a masterpiece.

I would suggest acquiring and studying the solo works of Gary Barlow. He has two CDs available - "Open Road" (1995) and "Twelve Months, Eleven Days" (1999).

Listen and re-listen to these invaluable resources.

As others have said, there is no such thing as super easy performing. You must study until your face becomes one with your abilities. Good luck.
