I have been a Paul Harris fan since the late 1980s when I “discovered” him through an ad in the back of the Stars of Magic book I had gotten at Hollywood Magic*. While I really dug the material in the Stars of Magic, my gripe was that everyone was so OLD. The youngest, hippest guy in the book seemed to be Francis Carlyle, and he had passed away a good 10 years prior to me finding the book! Paul Harris was young and hip.
One of my great pleasures after that, was trying to find Paul Harris books. This was in the days before the internet, and you had to make a great effort to get magic books if your local (brick and mortar) magic store did not have what you needed. I remember reading those Paul Harris books cover to cover, trying everything out over and over again. (Except for Pain and the Perpetual Coin Myth!) Man, were those book fun. I, of course, bought the Art of Astonishment series as soon as they were published. I always felt that reading the individual books more satisfying than studying the encyclopedic tome of Paul Harris’s work, where you could get overwhelmed by the sheer volume. You also missed out on some of the humor of the original books. Naturally this year I got the True Astonishment series.
My question is: does anyone know what effects that were in the original Paul Harris books never made it to the Art of Astonishment trilogy. (I do not have my Paul Harris book with me, so I can not cross reference.) I recall one move called PUSH which I do not think made it into the series. (Sorry for the long winded query. I just felt you needed my historical context!)
*PS: I never did learn that Carlye watch steal.
