If pushed to choose only one MAGAZINE to supply you with
a lifetime of workable material what would it be? |

For me, it would be Harry Lorayne's Apocalypse.

Isn't it about mainly coin and card work?

Why a magazine ?
The effect is the important thing, how you achieve it is not.......

Why not?...a magazine can be more comprehensive on many levels then most books can...
I am not looking for anything in particular just as much variety in them as possible...thanks! |

Then, you want The Wizards' Journal! Of course, I'm a bit biased.

In addition to Apocalypse I would suggest you check out The Magic Menu and Richard's Almanac for current, bound editions. Marv Leventhal and Dan Harlan had a hit with The Minotaur (lots of great material!), but these are exceptionally difficult to find (I do have a dozen or so extras that I'll be selling eventually). If you can find them and afford them get yourself a set of Bascom Jones' Magick. Undeniably brilliant!! I also found a lot of great items in Michael Ammar's MAJ.
For classic stuff containing a huge lot of hidden gems I'd point you toward Jinx, Sphinx and Phoenix. My current favorites (meaning those that are still published) are Channel One and Antinomy. Getting back to your original question, however... I'm sticking with Apocalypse. Best of luck! |

If I needed a magazine for material, it wouldn't be a magic magazine. It would be one about psychic phenomena, or perhaps about the silly beliefs people have. The last thing I need, and I think that most of us here actually need, is more methods, and in the case of Apocalypse, more "quickies" or more "afterthoughts."

The jinx wish it was still printed (a good mag on mentalism only would be nice)

There is more good material in Fate Magazine than there is in all the issues of The Jinx.
We don't need techniques. We need inspiration. If there were NO magic magazines published for, say, 20 years and no DVD's issued for a similar period of time, we would be forced to actually THINK for ourselves. Magic wouldn't be a world of bad mentalism and CIB tricks. Mentalism is the new "watch steal."

The Linking Ring...I've discovered some incredible gems in their Parades. A close second would either The Magicgram or The Gen.
