Hi can anyone tell me the difference between a ringneck dove and a java?

The java dove is in a nutshell a white ringneck dove. There are many varieties of ringneck doves which can be viewed here http://www.dovepage.com/species/domestic......ist.html
but Java dove is just another name of the white color morph of the ringneck dove. |

Alexo is correct. Both the ringneck and java are the same species. Scientifically, the ringneck is called Streptopelia Alba and the Jave is Streptopelia Risoria but on stage, noone is going to say "hey, look at the Streptopelia Alba" The Java is referred to as the sacred white dove
The Java is slightly smaller than the ringneck and is somewhat easier to train because they are very docile, although they are usually harder to find and more expensive. The common bird in use is the white ringneck, which is an offspring of a real ringneck. BTW, a true ringneck is brown or tan in color with a very definate black ring around its neck.

Actually both are nowadays classified as streptopelia risoria. The use of the term streptopelia alba was discontinued when they were determined to be the same species. Then again taxonomy changes all the time so who knows.

Since these are technical terms and most people really don't care, it isn't worth an in depth discussion but as of March of this year, dove publications and articles were still referring to the Jave dove as Risora and the ringneck as Alba.
They are also referred to as Barbary doves but that's another discussion.
