I was just curious about people who use the Carnival of Ribbons dove production or similar... How do you guys who use this produce the ribbons first?

I was thinking Square Circle, but that seems like a lot of stuff to carry...

Any time that I have seen it used was as a standalone, but it could be used with other apparatus as you suggested. It would make the effect stronger.

Hi Steven,

I open with a dove production from Carnival of Ribbons and Square Circle. The two minute routine is set to music.

PM me if you wish more details.

My wife Lucy just picks it up, walks down stage, and performs it!

That's a bit direct. I was hoping for something a bit more magical as far as explaining where the ribbons came from...?

Don't forget, Lucy spent years on stage in ballet and modeling. She dances!

Alright, Bob, but I'm betting that me dancing around the stage with a bunch of ribbons would somehow not be considered very sexy...

If anyone complains, I'm giving them your phone #. hahaha

I'm picturing different colored liquids being poured into a tube (or something), and then transformed into the ribbons.

Colored pieces of flash paper into a dove pan?

Haywire, I am just picturing you dancing, doing the seven ribbons (or veils)! Ha Ha. Just kidding.

I used the following idea successfully just the other night in my Chinese act.
I hung up a colorful bird kite on the back stage curtain with Carnival Ribbons entwined in its several tail strips. Ribbon was actually tied to kite with cotton to support weight of hidden dove.
Then (with bird sound effects playing) I spot the bird sitting there and "cut off" some of its tail feathers with my sword. Now, pick up a Fantasio Vanishing Candle(loaded with a white silk) and place on top of Carnival Ribbons. The candle changes into a silk on a pass - then the dove is produced from under silk.

Bamboo: Do you happen to have a video of your show where you used the Carnival of Ribbons? I have that illusion, but never used it, and I also need some ideas. I like your idea, but I just need to see it.

Not just yet, Brian. But I will be doing the show again at a public theatre in August (as part of the Cape Magician's Circle Magic Cabaret), and I believe it will be captured in full on DVD. Then, I'd be glad to let you have sight of it.

You could produce the loaded Carnival Ribbons from THIS (Improved).

Haywire,

Here is Rob Evans using the Improved THIS in his show

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CbfNiyJu_0Q

Rob takes the Line of silks from it. (Rob is RJE here on The Café. See him and Pat for the fine Silk Fountains they make.)

If things work out I'll be up your way lecturing this summer. Catch a lecture and I'll show you somethings about both. It is a much updated version of the European trick from the 1400s to produce a bottle of wine from napkins. Now it is done with real silks and has overcome the problems of the one marketed just as THIS in the 70s and 80s.

January and February I will be lecturing on THIS (Improved) along the Gulf Coast. If you will be in Louisiana, Mississippi, or Florida check Spellbinders Lecture Calendar for places and dates.

I like this effect I've used it to produce my Love Bird (He wasn't happy). A subtly is to cut a few ribbons and let them fall to the floor. Pick them up (if you wish) and produce your dove. Using this as a stand alone effect, the extra ribbon shows that it is just "ribbons". Hope this helps.
