I was hoping someone would be able to help me on this. I would like to put Kevin James' Floating Rose routine into my repetoire. I need the 4x9 or so sheets of flash paper. But every magic shop I see has the small packets, or the 4x9 sheets that are $6.50 for four sheets. Anyone know of a provider who has mass quantities for sale of maybe 40 or 50 sheets?

Thanks,
Brian

Thanks for the tip, but it will probably be too expensive from overseas.

Humm, I am not too sure, I know adam does very good wholesale rates as I once bought wholesale for personal use and it can't be too expensive to ship paper.

I would like to add a cautionary tale to the Flash paper discussion.
When I opened my first magic shop in 1965. I purchased a large pack of flash paper. It was a slow seller.
During one night it ignited itself, the fireman told me it was internal combustion created because it generated heat inside the pack. We lost a lot of stock because of it.
My warning is. Store flash paper outside in a fireproof container like a tin. You must treat flash paper with respect, I do believe these days it is supplied wet, so never let it become dry.

Remember that you can order more than one pack for the same amount of postage.

Most of the full sheets I have seen have been about 9 x 9 inches. There used to be some that were about 36 x 36.

Is there a FAQ on safe flash paper storage somewhere?

Gaddy, I think the concensus is wet, in a strong ziploc bag, in a steel box. Dry some to use and keep those sheets in a similar setup; Ziploc and fireproof box.

Target, et al, sell small 'safes' for the office, some done up as dictionaries, etc., and all are keyed. If they're even relatively firesafe from the outside, they'll save the house from the inside. By the time the flashpaper goes up, it's out. Be sure to use something that doesn't have a lid that can be blown off from the pressure. A keyed document safe will do.

Others may have more to add.

As far as I know its free worldwide shipping. Its good stuff, I won't use any other brand now as I've never had this fail on me.

Brian,

Try http://www.magicfest.com here in Portland. Mark Bentheimer sells packs of flash paper remnants (odd sized pieces; some packs might have a bunch of 2"x 3", some 1 1/2" x 2", etc.) You can then "cut them down to fit".

Unless you need a uniform size each and every time, and you can't be bothered with the time it takes to "cut to fit" to size, these remnant packs might be something worth looking into.

Just A Cautionary Note To Go Along With This Topic.

I Just Averted A Potential Disaster With A Bunch Of Flash Paper.

I Had It Stored In A Heavy Weight Zip Loc Bag Inside One Of My Prop Trunks.

I Happened To Be Checking On Other Props When I Realized That All Of The Flash Paper Sheets Had Changed To A Yellow Color And Had A Strong Sulfuric Smell.

I Managed To Safely Dispose Of It By Flushing It But It Was Just Getting Ready To Combust.

Store All Of Your Flash Paper, Cotton, String, Etc. In A Fireproof Metal Box And Not Inside Your Residence.
Also Do Not Over Buy Like I Did Where I Had Bulk Flash Paper Hanging Around For A Long Time.

I Got Lucky. Don't Tempt Fate.

Best,

I keep my flashpapers and flash strings in the refrigerator. It may stay there for a very long time. I have even some packages left from 2005. For your information.

Unfortunately I have no numbers to offer.

But I'm thinking you need a system.
