-Allan Ackerman Advanced Card Control series volume 5 (False Shuffles)
-Darwin Ortiz on Gambling Protection
-Steve Forte's Gambling Protection Series volumes 1,2,3 (cards) and volume 4 (dice)
-Richard Turner The Cheat volumes 1,2

Please use the SEARCH function of this forum as this topic has been discussed MANY times before.

HI Mattisdx,s

I know I am not the first one to tell you this, but you always (almost) suggest the Lennart Green video to anyone...

Do you have a cut for each of his videos that sells???

Because I think that besides a few false shuffles and a poker routine (in SIX volumes none the less) is a bit below my ratio of $$$ invested versus material usable.

Besides many (not all) of his false shuffles are not suited to card table protocol.

Just my observations

Saturnin,

I come here to the Café to help other people in ways that I wish I had been helped when I was just getting into magic. If I find a product that stands out above the rest, than of course I'm going to reccommend it. Especially if someone is asking for help. I'm doing what I wish people had done for me. And if that offends you, than you probably shouldn't read my posts.

IMO, I'll stick with Ed Marlo's The Cardician. I think it has information about cheating at cards (i.e. second deals, bottom deal, four, that's right, FOUR different passes, Aces To The Top: A three-phase routine where the four aces keep rising to the top of the deck after continuously being lost in the middle. The final phase is a triumph effect where the aces are the only ones face down and are in every fourth position for a poker deal, The Punch Deal: A method of dealing a winning poker hand from a freely shuffled and cut deck. Now that's gotta be good. That's exactly the kind of material I looked for; for cheating at poker. I'll buy it.
Cheers,
Michael

Hi Impromtuboy,

I own the Cardition, the Richard Turner volumes etc, and I still think that Steve Forte's GPS series provides the ultimate in card cheating and related card maniplation.

Does The Cheat DVD (Richard Turner) include detailed explanations or is it just performance?

The Cheat is demonstration only. Like most of these tapes (Forte, Joseph, Lovell, Marks et al) it is very interesting to watch in fifteen minute chunks. Any more than that and the brain starts to lock up...

Take care, Ian

Ortiz's "On Card Cheating" is good, but he doesn't really teach you the techniques, but tells you what is going on

Are you sure Ian? On a few different websites describing the DVD, they say that there are instruction. Don't get me wrong, Im not doubting you.
ie:
The Cheat by Richard Turner

The sleights you'll see in these DVD's were NEVER meant be seen. Learn superior card cheating techniques step-by-step from world famous Richard Turner.

- 13 minute biography of amazing Richard Turner.
- 30 minute no-holds-barred riveting performance
- 1 hour/33 minute filled to the brim teaching

Hmm, it's entirely possible that the DVD is different to my videos. However, I have fairly stringent citeria for what constitutes 'teaching'...

There is a big difference between showing someone how to do something, and showing them how it is done (which is my personal method for deciding what is exposure). I'll try to explain, but bear in mind that these are my opinions, and feel free to disagree with them if you wish. Also bear in mind that I have over 20 years of teaching experience.

Michael Close nailed it in Workers 3 while discussing Palming. He gives a paralell example of learning Piano - hit all the keys in the right order. Off you go. This is, he says, how the majority of magic it taught, and then goes on to give the best lesson on Palming to date.

Admittedly this is a bit of an extreme example, so let's get more specific (and a wee bit more self serving...). Let's say you want to learn to false deal. Here's a short lesson;

1. To deal seconds, push the top card over a small amount. Pull out the second card. Pull the top card flush again.
2. To deal bottoms, push the top card over a small amount. Pull out the bottom card with your middle finger. Pull the top card flush again.

Now, armed with that information it is feasable that you can learn the deals, if you are _very_ analytical. But there are no finesses, not tips, no step by step blocks to learn. No _teaching_. All I did was tell you how they are done, not _how to do them_. My memories of the Turner videos (and Lovell, Joseph, Forte et al) is that is the level of instruction. The self serving bit? Follow the link in my signature below. It's 48 minutes of detailed _teaching_ on two moves.

Having said that, if this is indeed a _new_ DVD that Richard Turner has put out, and he does indeed explain the mechanics of the moves then I will be right there in the queue to buy a copy. I won't, however, hold my breath.

I will repeat that the Cheat in either form is a very good video, and I'm glad I own it.

Take care, Ian

That's why Marlo's' Revolutionary Card Technique' tome beats the Ackerman and Lovell videos hands down - it's in the detail.
