I noticed that Cultural Xchange is now on sale at http://www.bobkohlermagic.com I know that many of you have been chomping at the bit to get this. I tried to look at the preview but it is not working. Any thoughts on this DVD?

I bought the cultural exchange video during the lecture tour Shoot and Apollo were doing recently.

here's a run down of the effects.

Trinity coin/vanish and production: a new and interesting way of vanishing and producing a coin. it can also be used for a copper silver/spellbound type routine.

neo-purse frame- a great looking coin routine using a purse frame.

right on cue- this is the easiest and best trick on the DVD in my opinion. The spectator chooses an 8 of clubs(or spades your choice) you the magically transform their card into a real 8 ball. No jacket or gimmicks required.

Royal Transpo- 4 kings and 4 aces magically change places while on the spectators hands.

Slide- shoots handling for a coin vanish.

coin exercise- apollo's handling for a coin vanish, and is also good for a warm before performing.

shoot shot- shoot's suggestions for using the muscle pass as a utility move.

pits to pocket- card to spectator's pocket.

Fore coins- 4 coin production where the last coin appears on the spectators forearm.

changing tebe- a king transform into an ace and back again, simply by passing the card through your hand.

pit palm- a method for using the spectator to hold a card for you.

Anniversary salsa- shoot and apollo's version of Anniversary Waltz (2 seperately signed and selected cards, become one card).

Toast Aces - a very flashy 4 ace production.

Shooting Kennedy- shoots coin flurry ending with multiple jumbo coins. requires a jacket.

The video is very well done and teaches many good variations on coin and card techniques. I feel that the 40 dollar price tag is a bit high for one DVD however.

I think that the average price of 29.95 would have been a bit more justified. But then again for the routines you are shown perhaps 40 is justified. I'm poor, what do you want from me!?

This routines are designed to be done in a noisy environment with lots of loud music and talking.

However if you walk into a place to perform magic and you hear the music that is on this DVD I suggest you turn around and leave immediately.

Because if you do hear that kind of music, it must mean you have somehow walked through a time warp and ended up in 1985 at the world's worst dance club. Either that or the set of a cheezy porno movie.

If you're interested I have a copy signed by shoot and apollo that I would be willing to trade for another DVD, pm me if you're interested.

It's great. I picked up the DVD at their lecture as well. In my opinion, if a product has Bob Kohler's name on it, you can rest assured that it's top-notch.

I thnk this is one of the best dvds that has come out in awhile. If you're a coin guy you'll love the stuff on here. On a scale between a 1 and 10, ten being the highest,I give it a 10!!! Worth every penny.

Although these two guys are obviously very talented and the sleight of hand is clever, I thought that in terms of real-world commercial effects this dvd was very disappointing. Magic for magicians, eye candy, etc etc. Lots of moves and virtually no audience interaction and no MEANING to what they were doing. I really wonder what kind of audience reaction this gets in real world situations. Unfortunately this kind of thing is very prevalent in the magic world. Performers who are treated as near gods by other magicians, but perform such uncommercial magic they wouldn't last 2 minutes at a real life booking. Then again if they spend their life and make their income just performing for other magicians perhaps it doesn't matter.

This was great! Coin work was beautiful, but did have some difficult sequences for the effect. Smile

I have to disagree with DJ. I feel that the material on Cultural Exchange can play for real audiences and get great reactions. Routines like Fore coins and Apollo's coin on shoulder where you load something on the spectator usually gets really good reactions. You do have to watch your angles on some of the routines, but it is still pratical when performing for real audiences.

As far as the routines themselves, Shoot's Neo-purse frame blew me away.....it looks just like real magic. I also found Anniversary salsa (Shoot's handling for the Anniversary Waltz) to be very versatile if you do table hopping or walk around magic...very nice. Apollo's pit palm can be a good move to have in your arsenal as well. All in all, if you want to see great sleight of hand, some very nice routines, and new methods, get this dvd.
