The Joining by Jeff Pierce, is an excellent effect where a borrowed ring(or yours) links on to a single rubber band. The routine is very well explained with nice clear pictures to make it easy to learn.
This effect is available in a pdf download for only $5.00 from Jeff Pierce magic-

Heavy hitters like Reed McClintock, Scott F. Guinn, Chris Kenner & David Regal have all given praise to this effect. So take their advice (& mine), get the effect.

Is this different to the one described in the large Mike Ammar book?

I also have the PDF "The Joining" from Jeff. The best part is the ending when the spectator pulls on the ring and it comes off the band. For five dollars it's a bargain. Smile

Well, I paid with PayPal and downloaded the file. But to open it, you need a password. I was never advised of any password. I have e-mailed Jeff to see what he tells me. But, if you are in a hurry...

John,
Thank you for your interest in "The Joining."
Please understand that a small measure of security was needed to protect myself. With the password I can match purchasers against PayPal accounts to make sure there was indeed a purchase.

I have had inquiries about the password from non PayPal account purchases.
I send the password in a email within hours of purchase, as it has been sent to you.

Please enjoy "The Joining." I hope you add it to your list of usable effects.

I can highly recommend the effect. It does owe its inspiration to other effects of this type, and Jeff does give credit. However, his handling is certainly different enough (and IMO, better) to warrant publication. I feel that Jeff has solved a number of the problems from other versions of this effect, and the gyrations required to get into position have been significantly reduced and are better covered. Further, I believe that his ending adds extra punch and conviction to an already stroing effect.

For what it's worth, I feel value for the small asking price is received many times over. All you need is a rubber band. You borrow a finger ring, and you have a reputation-making routine!

Hi,
I posted this elsewhere, not knowing where to put it I wrote it in Rings, Rope, and Things section.
Believe me, this is the most exciting event of the magical year for me. A SIMPLE method (vs, Chris Kenner or Ammar)-- , ten seconds or so, incredible effect ---and only FIVE DOLLARS?? Also, an extra surprise at the end.

I have "The Joining" and agree that the effect is good, but am having trouble with the part where you remove your right thumb at the end of the initial set-up. I can't seem to get the intertwine reliable (hope I'm giving enough info for those with the instructions, without giving anything away!).

Any suggestions for things to try would be much appreciated.

copterchris,
you must maintain the tension on the band, if you relax the interlocking may loosen and come apart.

Thanks, Jeff - I will try it again. I noted that instruction in the pamphlet but I'll be sure to double-check that I was following it.

After playing around some more I discovered the source of my problem. When rotating my thumb towards me before release I had been rotating up initially, but down works every time. The script only says "Rotate your right thumb..."

It is an awesome effect!

I bought the effect after reading the post and it is very qucik jeff send the password.

Actually since I never played rubber band trick so I have problem at the begining to understand the start steps. I mailed jeff about my problem and he give a reply after I wake up next day. Then I can go on and make it done. I have to say the effect is very good and the method is simple but smart. Jeff is also kind to give me another tip on the handling band.

I found the post by copterchris above also help me to solve my problem and maybe Jeff shall udpdate his script to make this more clear. For $5 I highly recommend it.(sometime I hate internet it make my money disapper so fast, but I get wealth in mind)

Max88, thank you for the kind words. I will look over the script again and perhaps redo that section if need be.
I appreciate any and all comments about "The Joining" and would love to hear how it performs for you.

Jeff

Here's a review of "The Joining" from "The Second Deal."

Reviewd by: "Jason Alford, The Second Deal" - 10/7/2002 8:07:39 PM

Jeff Pierce has put together a 6 page PDF document containing his ideas on linking a finger ring to a rubberband. Jeff's inspiration is Chris Kenner's "Missing Link" (Totally Out of Control).

This document basically contains three sections:

"The Joining" - How to cause a ring to almost visibly jump onto a rubberband.

"The Un-Joining" - This allows you to have a spectator pull the linked ring off of the rubberband themselves.

"Rubber Band Split" - This is a bonus item in which a single rubberband is split into two.
Linking a ring on a rubberband can be very magical. I think the best part of Jeff's publication is that he has worked out a way to have the spectator pull the ring off the rubberband themselves! I can see "The Un-Joining" making its way into rubberband magic routines fairly easily. For a little effort, one can add a nice addition to any ring and rubberband routine.

The bonus item is a little hard to understand at first read due to no pictures, but turns out to be a clever way to show a single rubberband and split it into two.

This electronic document is 6 pages and contains 11 pictures. For a price of $5, I recommend this for anyone who has performed, or is planning on performing, a ring and rubberband routine.
