The facial morph Lawrens posted was excellent, to be able to produce a consistent progression like that must have taken some serious resources.

My guess is they shot the sequence with several generations of the same family for the raw footage to guarantee a close match between the generations, then used makeup to bridge the age gaps between generations in successive filming passes, then used some post production wizardry to further close the gaps, then used the morphing software to blend them all together before finally ensuring the lip synch.

Basically, it must have taken so long that waiting 80 years to film it for real started looking like a realistic alternative!
